Advanced Practice Provider for Oncology Treatment Center (OTC) Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant Job Location Duke Cancer Center, 20 Duke Medicine Circle, Durham, NC Job Summary The Medical Oncology Advanced Practice Provider for our Outpatient Infusion Center and Acute Care Clinic provides direct patient care in collaboration with a multi-disciplinary team, including attending physicians and other medical professionals by collecting and documenting data, obtaining/ordering diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, laboratory studies and professional consultations. The age-specific scope of practice is for patients 18 years and older. Job Duties and Responsibilities Promote and maintain high standards of patient care throughout the continuum of cancer diagnosis. Elicit detailed and accurate patient histories and perform through physical examinations. Order appropriate diagnostic imaging and tests to determine medical and post treatment diagnoses, patient conditions, treatment toxicities. Formulate appropriate treatment plans with critical thinking skills and high-level clinical judgement including prescribing appropriate medications. Chart patient progress maintaining detailed and accurate health records Oversight of emergency management of patients Hypersensitivity protocol Code Blue/ 115 first response Assessment of acutely ill patients awaiting admission to the hospital Additional orders for symptom management as needed Collaboration with inpatient medical team for handoff Prescription of medications for symptom management Additional orders as needed Address lab values if outside of regimen parameters to determine if patient can receive treatment Order supplements as needed based on lab values Potential procedures Communication among multi-disciplinary teams to support patient care. Collaborating, supporting and building strong relationships with supervising, back-up supervising physicians, APP colleagues, and team members. Participate in education of patients, family members, new staff, students and other learners. See scheduled and unscheduled patients. Attend program required meetings. Maintain up to date clinical and professional knowledge via approved CME. Protect patient confidentiality, maintain ethics and abide by North Carolina laws and Duke Health System policies. Maintain institutional requirements for compliance. Job Eligibility Requirements Education NP: Graduate of MSN or DNP accredited Nurse Practitioner ProgramPA: Graduate of ARC accredited Master's Degree or Doctoral Degree Physician Assistant Program Certification NP: Any NP certification that treats adults (FNP, ANP, AGNP, AGACNP, etc.)PA: PA-C Licensure NP: Unrestricted RN licensure issued by or recognized by the NCBON with authorization to practice as a NPPA: Unrestricted license issued by NCMB with authorization to practice as PABoth: Federal and State DEA independent license with prescriptive authority Experience APP experience is preferred, ideally Oncology/Hematologic Malignancy experience, but recent or new grads, graduating by August 2024 are welcome to apply.
